Full coverage. Try them on if you can.
Required for Level 1.5 and Level 2. Do not buy stocking-type shin guards. You want full coverage with velcro and foot elastic — they should feel fitted and snug around your calves and ankles. The foot cover should reach as far over your toes as possible without touching the ground.
Fit check: Velcro and foot elastic should feel snug — not painful, not sliding. Foot cover should protect as much of your toes as possible without making contact with the floor. When in doubt, size down.

Once your gear stinks, it never stops stinking. Prevention is everything. This is not optional maintenance — it’s the difference between gear that lasts years and gear you’re replacing in six months.
1: Loop velcro backwards after class to open up the gloves and let them breathe.
2: Spray with antibacterial cleaner. Wipe down with a cloth or towel.
3: Place in front of a fan for at least 20 minutes.
4: Store out of direct sunlight in a dry, airy space. Not your bag.
